    • Diagnosed/managed acute and chronic conditions like hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, COPD, SUD, and other mental and physical health conditions.
    • Performed procedures including central lines, insertion, removal of chest tubes, paracentesis, arterial blood draws and interpreted EKG’s, X-ray, CT scans, and more.

    • Participated in trauma orthopedic/sports medicine surgeries such as surgical wound closure, wound care and mgmt., splinting/casting, etc.
    • Rounded on orthopedic patients, consulted in emergency room for orthopedic trauma cases, charted using EPIC.

  • Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs, CO (March 2022 – December 2023)
    • Lab Support Technician: worked in hospital environments drawing 40-80 patients per day, responding to traumas, codes, and the floor.
    • Used EPIC to perform admission tasks by making appointments, registering patients, answering phones, correcting, and confirming insurance information (including providing estimate costs of tests).
  • United States Forest Service in La Grande, OR (March 2020 – January 2022)
    • Interagency Hotshot Crew (Wildland Firefighter/Lead EMT): Senior firefighter on the La Granse Interagency Hotshot Crew, leading up to 6  crew members to accomplish tasks in fire mitigation and suppression effectively in diverse, high stress, work environments.
    • Incident Commander in high stress, time sensitive situations, with 2 or more resources to suppress fires and mitigate risks while ensuring safe work conditions.
    • Acted as lead EMT for a 20-man crew, providing medical assistance and creating training opportunities for the drew to practice skills, patient packaging, and transport.

Meet Kate Averett, PA-C!

 PA-C Kate Averett brings a diverse background in emergency medicine, family practice, behavioral health, women’s health, and critical care. She earned her Master of Medical Science and Doctor of Medical Science degrees from George Fox University, where her doctoral research focused on the role of running as a treatment for depression and anxiety.

Kate completed extensive clinical rotations in internal medicine, ICU care, orthopedics, emergency medicine, pediatrics, oncology, behavioral health, and women’s health. She gained hands-on experience managing both acute and chronic medical conditions across patients of all ages. She is passionate about building strong patient relationships and providing compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s needs.

Before becoming a Physician Assistant, Kate served as a wildland firefighter, EMT, and search-and-rescue volunteer; all experiences that strengthened her leadership skills, adaptability, and calm approach in high-pressure situations. Her background in emergency response and community service continues to shape her patient-centered philosophy of care.

Outside of medicine, Kate enjoys running, outdoor adventures, and staying active in the mountain community she calls home.
